Raining Cats And Blogs: Which Backsplash Do You Prefer - Glass Mosaics Or Natural Stone

Which Backsplash Do You Prefer - Glass Mosaics Or Natural Stone

There are so many choices when it comes to updating your kitchen. From the type of countertops to the color of the cabinets, there are always plenty of decisions to make. One of the many things to make a decision on is the type of backsplash. One of my favorites is glass mosaics. However, I also love natural stone! At the moment, I am leaning a little toward the natural stone. My biggest negative for the stone is it is harder to clean ( especially behind the stove).  That one detail makes me go back to thinking about glass tiles. What are your thoughts? Do you have a preference? Do you think one is more desirable over the other? I would love to hear what you think or any other alternatives as well.

Sheila, the backsplash is one thing that can get dated really fast.  The ones that are tiles in 50 shades of brown are so three years ago!  I like thin glass subway tiles.

I guess I prefer stone, but after careful consideration with my wife.

Thank you for sharing.

Good morning Sheila. I would go with the easiest. I have quartz counters because they are maintenance free.

I love the glass backsplash too but we decided to go with a stacked slate in our kitchen to give it that Colorado mountain feel.

Hi Sheila, I think in most cases I prefer glass.  In many homes I've also seen the largest area (usually behind the cook-top) have a custom artsy-design placed - helping to break-up the large expanse of back splash with a focus-element.  John

If my kitchen had a more contemporary modern look I would definitely go with the glass tile.  But a beautiful natural stone can be a real stunner if it complements the cabinets and countertops.

Just because I love the look of natural stone, I would find one that's gorgeous and go with that one.
