Speechless Sunday - Old Stone Church Cemetery in Clemson SC

Many of the graves are confederate soldiers.

The Old Stone Church and Cemetery is a historic site in Clemson, South Carolina. Some of the graves date back in the 1700's... It is so strange to see tombstones that old.. There are some that are so old, you can no longer read anything on them. Yesterday's post was on the Church at this site.. Here is a link: Silent Saturday - Old Stone Church In Clemson SC

My husband I recently found an old cemetary with some graves as early as 1808.  Certainly not as well cared for as this one. I like old cemetaries.  Don't know why, but always have.  Perhaps one being by my first school has something to do with my fondness.

Hi Sheila, Old cemeteries are certainly a way to be connected to the past.  Interesting to see family cemetaries out inside of fields.

Tammy - they are peaceful i think

Gloria - More families back then were buried in family plots.. seems we have gotten away from that somewhat.

Sheila, these stones are really, really old!  There is an old cemetery in Georgetown with some awfully old graves.

Great pics, Sheila!  It's interesting how big they were and how they still stand so straight.  Now ours are all laying on the ground instead.  Wonder when they started to lay them down?!
