I feel like I am talking to a brick wall a lot.. How about you? I have definitely noticed a decline in comments in the past year. I used to ask a lot of questions and always knew i could count on AR community to help with the answers.. Now, I'm lucky to hear from 10 people.. Come on guys! That is what this site is all about!! Comment!! Comment!! COMMENT!!!!
Robert Swetz (Vegas Bob) wrote 2 interesting posts in the last two days that addressed what he says is the declining number of comments left on posts. He could be right! I don't have any stats so I have only my own experience to judge the accuracy of his posts.
Go to your "Home" page, scroll down and look at your "Comments Received" and your "Comments Left". Now I don't think there's any kind of rule about your "Received" vs "Left" numbers but if your "Received" is significantly higher than your "Left".... Hmmmm were you the one in school that had lower marks for "Plays Well with Others"???
Seriously though, I have to admit that my numbers for commenting have declined as well. I could come up with a number of excuses, but the finger would still point back to me.
However, posting without comments is definitely like talking to a brick wall!
And, if you're not commenting on posts that you've read, you're really missing out on what networking is all about, and you're missing out on the many opportunities that ActiveRain has to offer.
Posts have been written about the value of reading comments made on posts.. and that is so true. What can separate a really good post from a "post" is the dialog it creates or encourages in the comments section.
We all have our own experience with posts and commenting but for me one of the greatest experiences has been the people I've met virtually and actually here on ActiveRain.
Without comments I never would have met Sir Roger aka Roger Mucci (and BTW, if you haven't followed him, do yourself a favor and hop over to his blog). My Home Staging company may be just me, but I have a wonderful and powerful group of experienced Stagers that are on my "Advisory Board" aka Maureen Bray, Sharon Tara, Cindy Bryant, Karen Otto, and I could on and on!
I know that I can post a question or concern here on ActiveRain and someone will come up with an answer. I know that I can get help with my new Droid X from Ray Saenz and his Google and Android Group and I have traveled the world via Vegas Bob. All of this probably would not be possible without the interaction that goes with COMMENTING.
I've been able to watch Sharon Tara's Jack and Zack grow; and watch new "friend" David Ames, a relative Active Rain Newbie take off running here on ActiveRain.
So unless you like talking to a brick wall, try commenting... You'd be surprised who you'll meet!
Let's hear from you.... why do you comment and what has been your experience??
