I wonder how many agents in the business have been in long enough to have gone through the “change” in business attire. Over the past decade or so there has been a rather dramatic shift in how REALTORS dress for their role as a real estate agent. You will notice that the dress code is trending more and more toward business casual and even plain casual. It is becoming more common than ever to see gentlemen in khaki pants, a polo shirt with sleeves unbuttoned and a tie – maybe snug, maybe not. And the ladies are coordinating shirts and pants and bling that would not have flown twenty years ago in a real estate office.
There are still plenty of conventional dressers out there, and they look great. Classy dress never goes out of style, in my opinion. You have ladies who still don skirts and dresses and you have gentlemen who still sport dress coats. They are NOT a dying breed; there will always be people who recognize conventional protocol and keep it alive, and for that, I am grateful. I am a sucker for a sharp dressed man.
But it is fascinating to look back and realize how we used to dress (as a whole) and look how we have evolved. We are more laid back and casual, I suppose. And our clients seem to like it. I actually believe it makes them feel like we are on the same level, rather than some haughty “million dollar club” agent who makes a million dollars a minute and doesn’t care about them…(You know that’s what the public thinks, right? Million dollar club = club for agents who made a million dollars that year)
One tip though…if you happen to be WORKING with a haughty client on a multi-million dollar property, you might want to pull out the suit…just sayin’
